Ozone Photon – EN-C Performance Paraglider

2-Row Sport Class

The Photon gives experienced pilots in the Sport class access to a level of performance very close to that of competition wings. This wing embodies the essence of Ozone’s expertise in 2-line design. This project underwent a meticulous development process during which we spared no effort, building numerous prototypes and flying them for hundreds of hours to achieve flight performance and out-of-range behavior that have elevated the Photon to a very high level of “Practical Performance” in real cross-country conditions. With the Photon, we have found the missing link between conventional 3-line wings and wings such as the Zeno 2 and the Enzo 3.

The Design

The Photon was developed from the Zeno 2 with a slightly lower aspect ratio and fewer cells. The chosen profile is slightly more stable and the camber is more pronounced, improving the feel of comfort during flight, while the winglets help control the effect of the increased camber on roll and spiral stability. This wing is the most accessible 2-line wing we have ever developed.

The Thrill of Flight

In flight, the stability of the airfoil and the cohesion of the canopy along both the wingspan and the chord give the pilot a feeling of solidity and compactness across the entire speed range. Our work has resulted in a wing that offers superb handling characteristics combined with good passive safety and great ease of use. The wing’s performance level is immediately apparent—we’ve never flown an EN C wing with such glide performance. It’s a true two-line wing; the pilot can directly control the angle of attack at all flight speeds, which provides added safety for experienced pilots and allows them to increase their average speed in turbulence. Rear-line control is intuitive and instills confidence in the pilot, making this wing the ideal first step for transitioning to this style of flying.

Performance

The glide ratio is very close to that of the Zeno 2, but it offers less demanding and more comfortable handling due to its lower aspect ratio and a more consistent wing. In terms of speed, the Photon is not only the fastest EN C wing we’ve ever built, but—beyond the D4—it also outperforms the M7 and the Zeolite, trailing the Zeno 2 by only a narrow margin. Equally important: at these speeds, the wing remains stable and comfortable, and the winglets stabilize roll, which improves performance during accelerated flight.

Passive Safety

The numerous collapse behavior tests conducted by our own R&D team have demonstrated that the wing easily meets the Sport class specifications, with behavior during asymmetric and frontal collapses similar to that of the Delta 4. We are never satisfied with just the calm-air tests required by the standard, and the Photon was no exception. We spent hundreds of hours pushing the wing to its limits under real-world conditions to confirm its in-flight stability and to assess its behavior after actual collapses, ensuring that the wing is well-suited for Sport-class pilots.

The Photon is EN C-certified and available in six sizes; it is designed for experienced pilots who have already flown EN C-rated wings, have a high level of wing control, and have recent SIV experience.
