For years, the PI series has offered a remarkable complete Hike & Fly package in terms of lightness combined with excellent performance and a high fun factor. The third generation places even more emphasis on the original motto of this product, "versatility and lightness": the PI 3 is available in two additional sizes, 21 and 25, and is even lighter and more compact.
Our pi3s come with a compression bag but without a carrying bag.
Thermal flying
In thermal flight up to a projected wing loading of 4.5 kg/m², the PI 3 with its well-balanced wing is easy to fly and offers maximum passive safety. In this range, the PI 3 is well suited for beginners and recreational pilots.
Walk & Fly
The range of walking and flying with a projected wing loading between 4.5 and 5 kg/m² is the right choice for those who want to walk up with light equipment and enjoy dynamic downhill flying.
In Mini Sailing
In the Mini Sail range, with a projected wing loading of 5 kg/m² and above, the PI 3 is clearly an active wing. It requires a very experienced pilot who flies actively and knows how to anticipate wing deformations before they even occur. The very compact wing is also suitable for Climb & Fly projects.
AREAS OF USE
Depending on its wing loading, the PI 3 will place different demands on its pilot. The higher the loading, the more demanding the flight characteristics and piloting skills will be. Small wings are fundamentally more agile, livelier, and more demanding to fly, even when flying with their normal wing loading. You can see the different piloting requirements based on wing loading in the table opposite.
Technologies & features
State-of-the-art Edelrid Pro Dry slings
The PI 3 is the first wing in the world to be equipped with Edelrid's new Pro Dry lines. Developed on the basis of the famous Aramid 8000 line, Pro Dry offers improved water resistance of over 60%. Very stable in length, this line retains above-average tear resistance, even after long-term use.
Size-dependent properties
Sizes 16 and 19 tend to be used for extreme hike & fly or even climb & fly: they are optimized without compromise in terms of weight and volume reduction. Nitinol wires used at the leading edge and extremely lightweight Dominico 10D fabric have made it possible to achieve these minimalist dimensions. From size 21 upwards, the focus is on handling and durability, with the use of proven Porcher Skytex 27 g fabric and the integration of Nylon Wires.
Holding Pin Loops
To prevent the paraglider from slipping on steep or slippery terrain (snow), "Holding Pins" can be attached to the new loops on the PI 3 using a short rope. To avoid damaging the paraglider, we recommend removing the holding pins before folding it. These holding pins are not included in the delivery package, so you will need to purchase them yourself. We recommend golf tees.
XPACK recommended (not included with our pi3)
The new backpack designed for the PI 3 is available in two sizes, 24 liters (368 g) and 32 liters (430 g). It is even lighter and more functional than before. The product has a beautiful finish, with new shoulder straps and an ultralight mesh waist belt, a removable helmet net, and a removable ice axe attachment.
