πͺ How to choose a paraglider?
Choosing a paraglider is an important decision: it must be adapted to your level of practice , your weight , your flying style and your objectives . Here are the main criteria for choosing your wing.
1. β Determine your level of practice
Paragliders are classified by certification levels :
-
EN A : Very safe wings, ideal for beginners and quiet flights. Stable, tolerant, they forgive mistakes.

EN B : intermediate sails, for progression . Perfect after training, they offer more maneuverability.

EN C : for experienced pilots . More performance, but also more demanding in piloting.

EN D / CCC : competition or high-level cross- country sails, reserved for expert pilots.

π‘ Tip: Don't overdo your skill level. A sail that's too technical is detrimental to safety and enjoyment.
2. βοΈ Check your weight range
Each wing has a flying weight range (GWP), which includes your weight + harness + reserve + equipment.
β‘οΈ Example: a 75 kg pilot + 15 kg of equipment = 90 kg PTV .
Choose a wing size where your PTV falls in the middle part of the range , except in special cases (dynamic flight, mountain, etc.).
3. βοΈ Choose according to your flight type
-
Hiking/mountain flight : look for a light , compact wing, often single-surface or semi-light.

Thermal/cross flight : choose a high-performance wing, with good glide and a finesse adapted to the distance.

Leisure flight / splash : priority given to ease and safety .

Acro / freestyle flight : specific wings, very responsive and symmetrical, for experienced pilots.

4. π Consider weight and size
If you do a lot of hiking or mountain flying, the weight of the wing is crucial. Some models weigh less than 3 kg, without sacrificing too much maneuverability.
