Ozone Alpina 5 – EN-C 2-line paraglider

Based on the Delta 2-line, the fifth generation of the Alpina was designed to set the standard for comfort, ease of use, and performance. Compact and lightweight, the Alpina retains its legendary agility and playful handling, while adding enhanced control and finesse at top speed.

Description

The Pilot

Designed for intermediate to advanced pilots looking to improve, the Alpina 5 is ideal for discovering 2-line technology. It’s suitable for pilots moving up from the B+ category and fully satisfies even the most experienced pilots who want the level of control offered by a 2-line design while retaining the incredible ease of use associated with a low aspect ratio.

Technology

The Alpina is our lightest 2-line wing with the lowest aspect ratio. Derived from the Lyght and developed using experience gained from years of competition andOzone ’s expertise in 2-line designs, the Alpina features a proven lightweight structure; it is a compact and sturdy wing ideal for cross-country flying in the most remote areas. The 2-line design allows for direct control of the angle of attack and reduced drag, resulting in exceptional performance combined with ease of use never before seen on a wing with such a low aspect ratio. Compared to its predecessor, inflation, performance, control during accelerated flight, and overall ease of use have been improved without compromising our promise of True Performance.

Weight has been reduced by using a complex structure derived from developments made for the Zeolite GT. This ultra-light internal structure maintains the same strength and stiffness while reducing the wing’s inertia to improve handling. The wing absorbs turbulence without deforming across its wingspan, allowing it to maintain its compact shape even in the strongest air currents, which ensures optimal control in the most challenging conditions.

Certification

The Alpina 5 has been certified to EN-C standards in all sizes using fold lines.

The Flight

The Alpina retains the same qualities of accessibility and True Performance as the previous version, but with better inflation and increased control at full speed. The wing inflates quickly and easily in calm conditions and does not overshoot the pilot in strong winds. The 2-line design provides more effective and intuitive control during accelerated flight, allowing you to maintain more speed in turbulence while retaining full control over the angle of attack. Compared to the Delta 5, the Alpina 5’s lighter canopy inflates faster and makes takeoff easier; the reduced inertia also provides greater sensitivity to air currents and increases control efficiency, further enhancing the wing’s agility.

You can perform the ears by pulling either the AR3s or the BR3s. With the AR3s, you need to apply a firm initial pull—we didn’t want to compromise the strength of the wing tips during normal flight—and then, once in place, the ears remain stable across the entire speed range. The ears on the BR3s are less effective but easier to pull and reopen more quickly.

The risers on the Alpina 5 are equipped with height-adjustable handles on the B-lines to provide optimal control over the wing, regardless of the pilot's body type.
