Companion SQR Light 2 Lightweight Emergency Parachute

Description

The SQR Light 2 project was launched just before the 2023 X-Alps. We certified the Light 2 in size 100 specifically for the competition, at an intermediate stage of development, and equipped our athletes with it. Thanks to its minimal weight and volume, the SQR Light 2 was the ideal companion for such a demanding competition. Following this test, the other sizes were also developed.

Less weight and more surface area

The new SQR Light models aren’t just lighter—they’re also larger. Weight has been reduced by up to 6%, and surface area has increased by up to 3%, depending on the size. As a result, the minimum sink rate has improved to 5.1 m/s. The size 100 model, weighing 880 g, now falls below the magic 900 g mark. Another highlight is the tandem reserve, which is now certified for up to 200 kg and weighs only 1,847 g. The Companion SQR Light 2 series thus offers, to our knowledge, the lightest reserve parachutes on the market.  

State-of-the-art materials

The SQR Light 2 uses a newly developed Ultralight fabric created in collaboration with Dominico Textile, which features high structural strength and offers the same high water resistance as its predecessor. In addition, lines from the European manufacturer Edelrid, specially designed for rescue applications, are being used for the first time. The line configuration was specifically designed to meet the requirements of a rescue operation in terms of elongation and breaking strength. All new materials underwent extensive long-term testing in collaboration with the manufacturers.
