The NeroHero helmet was designed by Ignazio Bernardi, with technical advice from Italy's leading helmet designer.
Creating a new helmet is a lengthy process. It begins with a prototype made of wood and plaster, sculpted like a work of art with all the classic skill of Italian craftsmanship.
Once perfected, it is scanned to create a 3D file, which can be used for computer simulations, color testing, and detailed design. After being refined, this file is then used to program the CNC machines that cut the outer shell and polystyrene lining templates.
This is just the beginning: the process continues with manufacturing, assembly, quality control, testing, and packaging. The result is attractive and technically flawless. In short, 100% Italian style.

Its magnificent shape has been enhanced by a new protective element that complements the helmet's aerodynamic profile and prevents accidental damage.
Another important new feature is that the NeroHero is now available in two versions, with a larger or smaller outer shell, for an even better fit and comfort.

Two sizes of outer shells, made of lightweight, durable carbon

As part of our ongoing commitment to user safety and comfort, we have introduced and certified a second carbon outer shell specifically for the largest sizes.
The smallest version is for sizes 53-59, and the largest version is for sizes 60 and 61.
What are the advantages of a full carbon shell?

Carbon is the most prestigious material for the outer shell of a helmet, lighter and more efficient than polycarbonate and fiberglass.
Carbon fiber offers optimal shell strength for greater safety, especially during high-speed impacts. In fact, NeroHero is a helmet built with the same technology used in military applications.
The helmet's lower weight reduces neck strain and the risk of whiplash, which also contributes to safety.
These tangible benefits are enhanced by the unique look of carbon fiber, which makes NeroHero a spectacular, eye-catching object without the need for additional graphics: the beautiful texture of the fiber and its very cool color make it attractive in its own right.
Polystyrene

In a helmet, the inner shell made of expanded polystyrene is fundamental to its shock absorption function, and in the NeroHero site, this layer is very thick, allowing it to pass the demanding tests required for EN 966 certification.
These include shock absorption tests, in which deceleration is measured in the event of impact with flat surfaces and curbs, and penetration tests with a pointed cone.
See below for more information on certification, as well as a link to a video.
Visor

This helmet is always sold with a visor.
Three visor colors are available: clear, brown tinted, and mirrored.
Please note that the mirrored visor is particularly delicate.
All our visors are anti-fog, anti-scratch, and offer full UV protection.
The visor's soft-close system is precise and effective, an exclusive feature of the Icaro 2000. It allows for continuous adjustment, with no fixed intermediate positions. This means that during flight, the pilot can choose the desired level of ventilation: from an almost airtight seal when fully closed to a fully open position.
Visor attachment system

The visor's soft-close system is precise and effective, an exclusive feature of the Icaro 2000. It allows for continuous adjustment, with no fixed intermediate positions.
This means that during flight, the pilot can choose the level of ventilation they want: from almost completely closed to fully open.
This fastening system is also essential to ensure that the aluminum disc does not protrude more than 5 mm from the outer shell, preventing the paraglider's lines from catching on the helmet.
An O-ring located inside the aluminum disc provides the friction necessary to adjust the position of the visor continuously and smoothly.
Sizes with interchangeable padding

We have introduced a high-tech Coolmax fabric cap, which increases comfort by wicking sweat away from the head and allowing it to evaporate quickly, keeping you cool and dry.
Each NeroHero helmet has a label that guarantees the use of this renowned new fabric, which is also soft to the touch and makes the helmet even more comfortable.
The size of a helmet is determined by the inner circumference of the comfort padding.
The size number corresponds to the head circumference in centimeters, which you can determine using a flexible tape measure.
5 caps are available:
for the largest helmet, marked with a label:
- XL = size 61
- L = size 60
- M = size 58 - 59
- S = size 56 - 57
- XS = size 53 - 55
If the helmet does not fit perfectly, we can send you new padding free of charge, regardless of where you purchased the helmet.
Another important advantage of this internal padding system is that you can easily remove it and replace it with new padding, or simply wash it.
Air circulation inside the helmet

There are two small openings at the front and two at the back of the helmet, as well as two large channels between the internal padding pieces. These features ensure good ventilation for the head inside the helmet.
Micrometric chin strap
The sturdy chin strap can be easily adjusted with millimeter precision.
To release the strap, simply pull on the red tab.
The strap is padded with soft, comfortable fabric.
A very cool tailpiece

We have added a new plastic protective component that complements the helmet's aerodynamic profile and prevents accidental damage.
EN 966 certification

Test:
The NeroHero helmet has been tested by the Italian laboratory CSI, a company authorized by the Italian Ministry of Transport.
This helmet has been designed specifically for free flight pilots, in accordance with the relevant European standard (EN 966).
But it is also ideal for land sports.
See thecertificateandthecompleteand very interestingtest report for this carbon helmet.
Our helmets have been designed and manufactured specifically to be as light as possible for paragliding and hang gliding pilots. However, optimizing safety is our top priority. On pages 7 and 8, thetest reportshowsthat the impact measurements of the NeroHero helmet are well below (and therefore safer than) the maximum deceleration (-250 g) allowed.
For more information on the E.N. 966 test, please read ourAbout Safety page.
Weight
Full carbon: 790 grams
The weight of a carbon helmet has a tolerance of +/- 50 grams, due to slight variations in the amount of resin applied to the layers of the shell.
Remember that our first priority is to optimize safety, then weight.
Manual
Italian quality

All our helmets are created by Italian designers, manufactured in Italy with Italian materials and technologies, assembled in our workshop in Laveno by qualified Italian staff, and certified by an Italian company.
It would be less expensive to relocate production abroad. We prefer to do everything ourselves, here in Italy, for one reason: quality, synonymous with safety and user satisfaction. Our quality is not just a slogan: it is demonstrated by tangible results. Our hang gliders and helmets are used by leading pilots who have won an impressive number of world championship victories.
And you can see the quality in action. We invite you to visit our workshop and watch our team working on the helmets.

About this unusual name NeroHero

It's not always easy to find the right name for a product. It has to reflect its technical and visual characteristics, it has to be accessible to Italian and international readers, and above all, it has to reflect the approach of the company that manufactures it.
We wanted to call the helmet Bullet, but that name had already been used for another flight product. We asked our friend and copywriter Henry Neuteboom to give us a hand. He suggested NeroHero, and we immediately liked the name.
In fact, Henry works on all our texts, writing, editing, and translating them.

Highly recommended.
